I’m a professional artist, a dancer, and an art history professor. My current work is focussed on building community through the Ecstatic Dance Collective, Dance Humans. As a lifelong dancer from youth and into adulthood, dance resurfaced through the Site Specific Dance residency in Provincetown, which led to practices in Ballet, Modern Dance, and Contact Improvisation methods.
My career started in the 80s as a curator and writer until I became an educator. Faculty positions include Simmons College, UMass Dartmouth and the University of Rhode Island, until I began as the first Professor of Art History with the Community College of Rhode Island in 1993. In addition to teaching, I'm making art, restoring historic structures, cultivating open conversations, and forming inclusive paradigms including the 2021 launch of www.ArtxHistory.org, an open education resource for Modern through Contemporary Art.
